Light is composed of different wavelengths, some of which can be harmful to the eyes — such as ultraviolet light, more commonly known as UV radiation, and violet-blue light. Within the blue light spectrum, we distinguish two types: turquoise-blue light, which is essential for our health, and harmful violet-blue light, close to the UV range. Research shows that violet-blue light is the most damaging to the retina, leading to the gradual deterioration of retinal cells.

Certain spectacle lenses, however, can help protect the human eye against harmful light radiation. The Eye Protect System lenses shield our eyes from harmful rays using a unique built-in filter system. This system works on the principle of light absorption, effectively absorbing harmful blue light as well as UVA and UVB radiation.

Eye Protect System lenses contain special light-absorbing molecules that are capable of identifying and filtering out the wavelengths of harmful violet-blue light while letting through the beneficial turquoise-blue light. The lenses thus provide optimal protection against changes in retinal cells.
